How many grams are in a pound (lb)?

This is a common cooking question as people want to be able to convert from pounds to grams. There are 453.59237 grams in a pound (lb). So, multiply your pound figure by 453.59237 to get your grams figure (or 454 for a rough conversion).

How many grams are in an ounce (oz)?

There are 28.34952312 grams in an avoirdupois ounce (oz). Therefore, if you want to convert ounces to grams multiply your figure by 28.34952312 (or 28.3 for a rough conversion).

Troy ounces vs avoirdupois ounces

Whilst the avoirdupois ounce is commonly used for weighing produce and people, the troy ounce is used for measuring precious metals (such as gold) and gemstones. These units are very different and it is important to ensure you have the right ounce to get an accurate conversion.

How many grams are in a troy ounce (t oz)?

There are 31.1034768 grams in a Troy ounce (t oz). Therefore, if you want to convert troy ounces to grams multiply your figure by 31.1034768 (or 31 for a rough conversion).
