1 microgram (mcg) = 0.001 milligrams.
1 milligram = 1000 micrograms (mcg)

1000 nanograms (ng) = 1 microgram (mcg)
1000 micrograms (mcg)= 1 milligram (mg)

my husband's doctor had changed his thyroid med. to a lower dose. the bottle is usually in mcgs. we picked up the perscription last night and i now the new perscription was surpose to me .50mcgs. but the bottle we picked up at pharmacy reads .05mg. is this the same dosage?? i don't want him to take too much of his thyroxine?

You are indeed correct on your answer, they are the same. Remember, 1mcg is the same as 0.001mg, therefore you will need to multiply 100 by 0.001 and you will get o.1 or ".1"

I am presently taking a vitamin that contains 100 mcg of Alpha Lipoic Acid. How many mcg does it take to equal 100 mg of ALA?

In other words i need to know how many of these vitamins (100 mcg) i would need to take to get the equivalent of 100 mg of ALA.

mc is 10e-5 not micro or mu in the metric system. ug would make more sense for microgram since we do not have a mu symbol on our qwerty keyboards. doctors still tend to use milligrams or decimals thereof to avoid
confusion e.g., 0.5 mg
